Today's Game: Scooby Snacks vs. Capital Punishment, 6:30 pm
The Scoobies have a 48.7% chance of winning tonight's game. But that's what they said about Saturday, and we ended up coming back from a 5-1 deficit to win 13-11. Our new recruit "The Hawk" is living up to his nickname....so much so that I think most of our team doesn't know what his real name is.

Today's Trial by Fire: PMRA Screening Officer Test, 1 pm
I have never been good at memorizing shit that I know I can look up in a book. Policy, legislation, metabolic pathways — I spent five hours memorizing The Calvin Cycle for my BIOL 101 exam and havn't remembered it since.
Today I am supposed to write an exam for a new job as a Scientific Screening Officer with the Pest Management Regulatory Agency. I have to memorize parts of the Pest Control Products Act. Other than for this exam, when is anyone ever going to demand that I regurgitate section 7, paragraph 3, part (a)? By the way, that's the part that says that the Minister (of Health) shall conduct any evaluations that are considered necessary with respect to the health and environmental risks and (or) value of the pest control product.

Six common types of pesticide:
copper–ethylenediamene - algaecide
carboxin - fungicide
deet - mosquito repellant
2,4-D - herbicide
malthion - insect repellant
warfarin - rodenticide

For more information on Pest Control in Canada, visit the PMRA Web site and try not to fall asleep.

I memorized the fermentation process for my grade 13 biology exam, and remembered it right up until my 4th year of university, although I never attended another biology class again. (I *took* biology 101 in 1st year university, but never actually attended. Didn't like hanging out in the same room with the competitive pre-med students even though I, as an aspiring computer science major, was no threat to them). Passed with a C- and then stayed the hell away from the life sciences. Good luck on the exam!!! I know you'll do great!

P.S. Go Snacks! Er, Scoobies! :-)

Once you've committed all the "cides" to memory, maybe you could advise me on which I might use against this tomato blight. I know you'll do fine on the exam.

Great web site! Very informative. I know very little about pest control products, other than mosquito spay of course, which I have had little to no use for this summer due to the terrible weather. But I guess thats a good thing considering West Nile. I will however file the "6 Common types of Pesticides" into the back of my mind for future use.
Some useless info:
Item #6 Warfarin is not only an excellent rodenticide, if you can believe it. As many know, Warfarin (a.k.a Coumadin) is an anticoagulant taken by mouth to reduce the formation of blood clots. It is often prescribed for conditions such as dysrhythmia/irregular heartbeat, and is used for prophylaxis and treatment of venous thromboses causing recurrent heart attack and other thrombolytic events such as DVTs and strokes. But users must be careful...too much can cause excessive bleeding, and there are many serious side effects (ie:rats). Anyhoo, good luck on that exam althought you don't need it. Smart cookie! Mmmmmmmm........cookies.....
