On top of spaghetti, all covered with cheese...
Copious Quantities of Quintessential Currie Concoction Consumed
For some reason, our family likes to think it's a little Italian. Special occasions are marked with lasagna and (or) spaghetti and meatballs. (To understand the and (or) part, you need to eat at my Uncle Russ's house. Thirty pounds of meat are considered to be a serving for 6.) When I was little, my dad used to tell me stories about his life as a kid growing up in Sicily, which he didn't. I was a gullible child. I also believed that my dad was once a little boy from Trenchtown, Jamaica, and that he taught Bill Cosby how to dance.
But I digress...
Tonight was spaghetti and meatballs night. Made famous by the aforementioned Uncle Russ, pretty much every member of the Currie family has tried to recreate his mouth-watering recipe. Sauce that simmers for days on end. Meatballs that melt on the tip of your tongue. Tonight dad came about as close as he ever has, and our belts have the new notches to prove it.

There was also a brief period where Dad decided that every Sunday dinner we would explore the cuisine from a different nation. And, to go one step further, he would play the traditional music and dress up in the traditional garb of the nation, for added festivity. I vividly remember one Sunday in particular; it was Mexican Food night (which was an exotic treat to us Canadians, unlike here in the US :-)). Dad had no authentic mexican attire to wear, so he... improvised a little. A cowboy hat for a sombrero; a plaid flannel scarf over the shoulder; and his combat boots (??). It was pretty goofy. But a good time was had by all :-) And it's one of those great memories that brings a smile to my face now that I'm older and can appreciate even more the lengths to which both Mom and Dad would go to to make sure we had fun, together, as a family :-) Should Tim and I decide to have any children, when they are old enough to eat solid foods I will be reinstituting the International Sunday theme dinners :-) In the meantime though, I do need to get the Currie family Meatball and Sauce recipe!

I feel honoured to be the grateful recipient of leftover Quintessential Currie Concoction and Sarah's Thanksgiving Smorgasboard: turkey, mashed potatoes, asparagus, homemade cranberry sauce, a slice of pumpkin pie, a couple of donuts, and yes, two meatballs. Most people would think that two meatballs is a pretty meagre supply of meatballs--except that these are baseball-sized meatballs. They're like little Death Stars of yumminess! I violated my longstanding rule of not eating before ultimate to chow down on some spaghetti and meatballs (not surprisingly, one meatball is plenty for one meal). I think it helped during tryouts for the advanced indoor league. One down, one to go! (In terms of both tryout sessions and meatballs.) PS - Was that a hint of garlic I detected?

There is no such thing as a "hint" of garlic when a Currie is behind the apron.
