WTF?
I am a girl, and while I try to be fairly inconspicuous and keep my shoe collection to a minimum, occasionally that extra X chromosome starts working in its mysterious ways. I am not entirely sure what is at work here, but today I got misty eyed during an Eddy Murphy movie. And to top it all off, it wasn't the first time.
The Nutty Professor, Dr. Doolittle, and Dr. Doolittle 2 choke me up. Actually, the scene in the comedy club in The Nutty Professor makes me outright weep.
I don't know what is more sad: that if Dr. Doolittle doesn't reintroduce a performing bear to the wild, the forest animals will all lose their homes, or that I am at home on a Sunday afternoon, doing laundry in my pyjamas, whimpering over talking squirrels.

Yup. It's the extra X chromosome. Doesn't matter how hard we try to just go about life as if there isn't a difference, it is guaranteed that something will come out of the blue and reveal the girly side of us. Animals - especially the furry variety (and it doesn't hurt if they talk and express emotion) are pretty much a universal trigger. Tim's used to it with me - in fact, I asked him to pick something out that's made me weep uncontrollably and he didn't hesitate - "Bambi. The forest fire scene". Actually, pretty much any Disney movie is guaranteed to bring out tears in me because invariably there is a cute animal (animated or real life) that is either lost, or hurt, or lonely, or in danger, or loses its mommy and that's just SO SAD. I mean - those poor little creatures...they never did anything to anyone.
And then there was the incident back in my 1st year of university. My new roommates and I all went out to see the movie "Dad" in the theatre when it came out. The opening credits come on, and the word "Dad" is emblazened across the screen in larger-than-life letters, and I start sobbing uncontrollably. And loudly. They were so embarassed. And they were all girls too ;-)

Remember the fat kid from 'Bad Santa'?

Yes, furry animals and fat kids tend to bring on the waterworks. :-(
